Omega Megaquartz High Frequency Marine chronometer, 4.19 MHz, Ca
1983. Number: 1504. Given by Precision watches Pty Ltd ( Now Swatch Group) to Walter Pisterman in 1985. Complete with box and papers/ certificate. Working well. I purchased from the Pisterman family many years ago, very unusual to have box and all papers. Quote from Omega a journey in time book: High frequency time-piece fitted with calibre: 1525( whose frequency quartz oscillates 4.19 million times per second. developed at the request of SHOM, the hydro-graphical service of the French Navy, who chose it to equip its fleet from among 36 other competitors, after 1 year of testing at sea under the most severe conditions. This high precision instrument, accurate to within 1/100th of a second per day, or deviating less than 5 minutes per year at a constant temperature, has a battery life of three years and is able to function between -10C and + 60C. this time keeper also successfully passed the most rigorous scientific tests at the Observatory of Neuchatel: temperature variations, thermal shocks, magnetic and electrical fields, mechanical vibrations, etc, which earned it the certificate and official title of " Quartz Marine chronometer" after 47 days of testing. Code named " Project Vega " , the marine chronometer combines a high frequency electronic module( developed just after 1974 marine chronometer wristwatch ) and an Imof table clock movement, the jumping seconds can be stoped by a switch: the hour and minute are mechanically corrected. The clock is powered by 2 standard 1.5 V batteries, providing 36 month power reserve: battery can be changed without affecting the time display. This Megaquartz model was a favourite of the then Swiss foreign minister Pierre Aubert, frequent gift of the Swiss Federal Council to visiting VIP guests during the 1980's, given to: Francois Mitterand in 1983, King of Sweden Karl Gustav XVI in 1985, Finnish president Mauno Koivisto in 1986, Argentinean president Raul Alfonsin in June 1987, and King Hussein of Jordon in Sept 1987. Marine chronometer was also offered by the City city of Geneva to Presidents Ronald Reagen and Mikhail Gorbatchev on the occasion of the Russian-American summit held there in 1985. |

Omega British Admiralty Deck Watch . Created in 1936 and specially developed for the British Navy, calibre 59-8 with twin barrels, 7 jewels, 8 days power reserve. Silvered metal dial engraved Omega Swiss made Story Barrow. Arabic numerals, blued steel Empire hands. Solid polished brass case with inner movement cover signed Omega, and detachable mounting bracket. This military timepiece is designed to be positioned and mounted on the bridge of a naval vessel. The retailers name: Story Barrow is Omega's retailer, founded in 1882 in Barrow-In-Furness, a harbour north of Blackpool and home to the shipping industry, as of the beginning of the 21st century, submarines were still built at this location.
